Nintendo has released its latest financial report, giving us an overview of total Switch sales so far. It looks good, with the combined power of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite and Nintendo Switch – OLED model selling 107.65 million units moving ever closer to that 110 million milestone. .

Despite this, Nintendo reports that Switch sales are down 20% year over year, with the company citing “shortages of semiconductor components and other parts”. It also singles out Animal Crossing: New Horizons as a particularly strong sales driver over the past fiscal year, something Nintendo has arguably been lacking in recent months.

Here’s how the console has sold over the past year:

  • Total Switch sales this period: 23.06 million
  • Total sales of standard switches this period: 13.56 million
  • Total Switch OLED sales this period: 5.80 million
  • Total Switch Lite sales this period: 3.70 million

Now let’s take a look at where the Switch stacks up against other major Nintendo systems:

Console Total sales
DS 154.02 million
game boy 118.69 million
Light switch 107.65 million
Wii 101.63 million
GameBoy Advance 81.51 million
3DS 75.94 million
Home computer / NES 61.91 million
Super Family Computer / SNES 49.10 million
N64 32.93 million
gamecube 21.74 million
Wii U 13.56 million

It’s a stark reminder of the Switch’s success and with games like Bayonetta 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet all slated for release this year, it looks like the console will see healthy sales well into the new year.

Time will tell, of course, if the system manages to catch up to the Game Boy and DS (we’re pretty confident on the former, at least), but we think the solid software support – including Breath of the Wild 2 in 2023 – should bring it closer to the top two places.

What do you think of the latest Switch hardware figures? Do you think it will catch up with the DS? Let us know in the comments.

For many people, gaming and fitness are about as opposite as two hobbies. However, the days of gamers just lying on the couch and barely moving to play are long gone. Here is the gist of the article in video form:

New updates are added at the bottom of this story…….

The original story (published April 20, 2022) follows:

Minecraft is a successful survival, construction and adventure game. It is currently available for several consoles and platforms in different versions (Minecraft Java and Bedrock).

Recently, Minecraft received stable update 1.18.30 with some tweaks and changes. However, it appears that the update also caused serious performance issues on some platforms.

Specifically, many Minecraft players on Nintendo Switch experience issues such as freezing, extremely long loading times, and server crashes. However, other platforms may also be affected.

Minecraft 1.18.30 update caused freezing and performance issues on Nintendo Switch

According to several reports, performance issues appeared after updating Minecraft to the latest stable version v1.18.30 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).

Minecraft on Nintendo Switch is currently experiencing random freezes, gets stuck on loading screens for a long time, or never finds servers to connect to (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).

Source

What did they do?

Since the last Switch update everything goes wrong, loading screens are longer, game freezes on autosaves and popping is a mess of loading for a long time and literally stepping into nothing, game runs fine before the update and is now an unplayable mess
Source

I can’t access my server

I’ve never had a problem with this so far, but every time I’ve tried to access the server it gets stuck on ‘location server’ and it just freezes on this screen. Also, my friend says I’m on the server when this happens.
Source

Other platforms might also experience performance issues

The vast majority of reports about it come from Nintendo Switch users. However, there are also reports from gamers on other platforms (such as Xbox and PC) describing similar issues.

Is anyone else’s game completely broken with this new update? (Rocky bedrock, Xbox One)

I play with my friend on switch and already I noticed that this new update completely broke Minecraft.

The main menu takes an absurdly long time to load now, and when you try to load into a world the menu starts hitting for 10 minutes before letting you in. We’ve only been playing for an hour now and we’ve already noticed that /fill doesn’t work and the command blocks are also very strange. Is it just on our side?
Source

No, this update took a giant crap like all console versions. Just scroll through the posts on this sub lol

Now my Switch version has 200% more screen freezes than normal!
Source

There is still no official acknowledgment of the problem by the developers. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for new related events that arise in the future to update this story.

Update 1 (April 21)

5:53 p.m. (IST): One of the affected users said that the game works best when played on a local network. However, it lags when playing in split-screen mode. Thus, users can play the game locally until it is patched.

Update 2 (April 23)

11:10 a.m. (IST): An user underline that new worlds work fine after this update, while old saved worlds lag and freeze. Thus, users can play on new worlds until the developers fix the problem.

Update 3 (April 25)

10:19 a.m. (IST): One of the affected players now said that the game only crashes when the save file size exceeds 15MB.

Update 4 (April 26)

11:40 a.m. (IST): A member of Mojang Support has confirmed that the team is currently investigating this issue and looking for a solution. However, they did not provide any ETA for the patch.

Update 5 (April 27)

11:57 a.m. (IST): A player asked the developers to add an option to disable the autosave feature as it was one of the main reasons for the game crashing.

Update 6 (April 28)

4:31 p.m. (IST): Here is a potential workaround suggested by one of the affected players. So those who are still facing this problem can try to see if it helps.

Here is what I did to be able to play again:

– From the world owner account, which was unaffected until I was logged in, I reduced the render distance to a minimum of 5 chunks instead of the default 12, and anti-aliasing to 1 (instead of 2).

– For my part, I painfully reached the underground tunnel connecting my house to other houses in the world and escaped. It took about 20 minutes of play being mostly frozen. Once out of the danger zone, I could move normally.

– Slithered closer and left the iron golems out of their boat at the front of the house, then took them somewhere else. They always briefly paused in the game around them every few seconds until they were dead, even when led out to the middle of nowhere.

– Rolled back and mined all boats.

“I still can’t get near the house, although I can get closer than before. (Source)

Update 7 (April 29)

10:41 a.m. (IST): Minecraft (Bedrock) has picked up a new update as version 1.18.31. This new update is expected to resolve freezing and stability issues on the Switch as it rolls out to the device in the coming days.

Here is an excerpt from the changelog:

– Fixed an issue where repeatedly saving and reloading specific songs would lead to delayed loading of songs, performance issues and game instability (Source)

Update 8 (April 30)

11:35 a.m. (IST): New Reports (1, 2, 3) now suggest that this problem persists even after the recent update.

Update 9 (May 02)

11:16 a.m. (IST): Some players are now saying that the game crashes due to mobs spawning.

(Source)

Update 10 (May 03)

11:14 a.m. (IST): The Mojang Studios Release Management Team Leader briefed players on Twitter that they are still investigating this issue.

We are still investigating this, and some have made progress, but we could always use more information. Are there any common themes about your worlds being impacted? Lots of crowds?

Blockbuster Stars Harry Potter franchise were unrecognizable from their childhood wizard characters as they faced off once again this week.

The deadly duo entertained onlookers as they competed in a series of challenges for the launch of nintendo switch Sports.

Child actors Tom Felton and Matt Lewis rose to fame in the magic movies but that was over 20 years ago, so it’s no surprise that their appearance has changed somewhat since they first donned a cape.

Best known as the son of a Death Eater, Draco Malfoy, and a member of Dumbledore’s Army, Neville Longbottom.

One Slytherin and the other Gryffindor, the character’s time at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was always going to be turbulent.

Reigniting old rivalries, the event held at Westfield White City in London on Friday (April 29) saw the duo get competitive once again as they swing, punch and ride to victory.

Wearing sporty outfits, including bowling shirts and tennis whites, the pair looked a million miles from the dark uniforms and capes they were pictured in at Hogwarts.

Tom said: “We know the fans loved our fictional rivalry, as did me and Matt.

“It’s always great to get together, especially when we have friendly competition around really fun games, rather than hard work on set.”

Swapping chopsticks for Joy-Con controllers, they battled it out on the soccer field, tennis courts, and bowling alley, with games ending in a sword battle during a game of Chambara.

“It was so much fun catching up with Tom today and settling some old scores,” Matt said.

“I love that we still have a friendly rivalry between us, and it was great to play that with a game from the new Nintendo Switch Sports here at Westfield today.”

Sports are all there in Nintendo Switch Sports, the follow-up game to Wii Sports, which lets players use real-world moves to compete in six sports.

Nicolas Wegnez, Nintendo UK, said: “Nintendo Switch Sports is a game that brings family and friends together to revel in friendly revelry.

“Tom and Matt are great friends despite their fictional rivalry and actual competitive play today using real moves across all six sports available in the game.

“They both really put their sporting skills to the test and above all had a lot of fun playing together.”

I didn’t go to Wall of Insanity expecting much. The developer’s previous Switch game, Mindcell, was a generic action game where you spent most of the time going through tunnels attacking things with the most random weapons imaginable. Going through screenshots, I assumed Wall of Insanity would fill a similar space, just with more of a horror theme.

Obviously, I didn’t expect to take advantage of it – and yet, I really did.

I mean, it’s not what you would call a great game. It feels a little cheap, the story doesn’t make much sense, and the controls can be a little frustrating, especially when trying to run and to shoot (which you will have to do quite often, as the monsters come at you quite quickly).

Even with those flaws, however, Wall of Insanity is a pretty fun horror shooter. First of all, it features some really scary enemies. There are little shrunken heads on spider legs that glide across the floor and can squeeze through even the tightest of spaces, there are mummy-like creatures that relentlessly advance on you, and there’s a lots of other monsters that have nightmares. They are deeply destabilizing.

They’re also quite fun to watch as they explode, which is part of why Wall of Insanity is so much fun. The game gives you a pretty decent selection of firepower, and while reloading takes a bit longer than necessary, it’s still very satisfying when you can start blasting.

How deep is the wall of madness? Not really. And I don’t think it’ll be on GOTY lists in eight months. But if you want a shooter that makes no pretense about what it is, you’ll want to check it out.

VenomizedArt provided us with a Wall of Insanity Switch code for review.

Hello, Nintendo fans, and welcome to a review of another Metroidvania. You’ll be glad to know that this one is Well, and if you love the Metroidvania genre, you’ll love playing Blast Brigade. Alright, well done.

What?? You want After?!? Oh my God. OK. It’s just that there are so many of these games and so little to say about them. We’re telling the truth, though, when we consider Blast Brigade good. This is a major effort in every way and we will work to expand it immediately. It means now. Stop looking at this paragraph, it’s in the next one.

In Blast Brigade, you first take control of a certain Jeff Jefferson, who appears to be a non-infringing version of Deadpool, minus the metahumor. Well, more metahumor – Jeff is a wisecracker and there is a fun breeze in play throughout the game that makes the proceedings more enjoyable. The comedy is not overplayed here, as the focus is firmly on the gameplay.

Luckily, this gameplay makes a good impression, with a kind of twin-stick setup for shooting, to the Bleed and its sequel. Controls are responsive, enemies are responsive, and frankly, it feels good to shoot them thanks to the powerful feedback and smooth 60fps gameplay. It’s all rather reminiscent of the ever-popular Guacamelee in its visuals and animations, though the instant gameplay is more – whisper it – Metroid Dread, albeit with a slightly methodical pacing. It’s the free aiming that makes the game so difficult -. you can shoot anywhere, but so can enemies, and they’re pretty eager to drown out the surroundings with dangerous traps and surfaces.

Despite the aforementioned airy tone, Blast Brigade can therefore be quite challenging. Enemies don’t let go and they’re placed to trip you up – we were somewhat surprised to find ourselves in an area absolutely littered with spiked floors, walls and ceilings in the first half hour, also populated by ‘a clutch of explosive- spitting giant flowers. It’s difficult, especially since dying means you drop money and return to the last hammock you slept in (the hammocks usefully serving as save points).

The difficulty is mitigated by the PDA you acquire, allowing you to augment your character with special abilities, such as a coin magnet and extra invincibility time on one hit; it’s surprisingly helpful. The trick is that the PDA batteries you find can only power one module at a time, so you can’t activate them all and become an unstoppable god.

You save more Blast Brigade members as you play through the game, which essentially act as keys for various gimmick locks you’ll discover, such as the extremely prominent gold hooks that you can’t interact with until you unlock Shura, who is able to use her grappling hook to cling to it. It’s a bit formulaic in that regard, but it’s a formula that works.

Hammocks that act as “bonfires” (yes, we did a Dark Souls comparison) can be quite far apart, which is frustrating; the “boss runs” can be quite long, but the bosses themselves are extremely well designed and fun to fight. Difficult, but not unfair – although you will probably die at least twice each.

The world of Blast Brigade offers what Metroidvania fans want; a vast but hostile space full of secrets and collectibles. That he does it with more identity than most is a good thing, but the thing is, it’s actually a ticking exercise. There’s nothing wrong with that; when you check the “make the game fun” box, you’re onto a winner. But there is nothing new here. And that’s fine – what’s here may be old, but it’s pretty brilliantly executed.

There’s the conundrum with games like Blast Brigade and Metroidvanias in general; the pieces of the puzzle are so often the same that even when done right, there can be a sense of boredom. We’ve felt this boredom at times with Blast Brigade, which is unfair because it excels at everything it tries to do. It’s just that the framework he works from is a bit tiredness, which – again – is not the game’s fault per se, but should be noted. Blast Brigade does what it can to make its gameplay fresh, its story and dialogue enjoyable to listen to (the voice acting is great fun), and its visuals pop. But it can only go so far.

Conclusion

Blast Brigade is a tough game to review. It’s great fun and we enjoyed our 20 or so hours with it, mopping up secrets and collectibles. We can’t recommend it highly enough if you’re still craving Metroidvanias, but those who are formula-worn won’t find any major deviations here. Maybe we would feel differently if the game was released a few years ago, but now? Blast Brigade is still a terrific Metroidvania, and one of the best we’ve played outside of the top tier (symphony of the night, et al). Get it right away if you even slightly think you’ll enjoy it, because you almost certainly will. It contains the same affection as Kaze and the Wild Masks, a true love letter to Metroidvanias. Truly exceptional it’s not, but Blast Brigade sticks around for a good while if you don’t suffer from genre fatigue.
