Everything we know about the Super Mario movie
(Pocket-lint) – There’s a Mario movie coming on the pike – we know a lot about it, but there are plenty of details about the film that are still up in the air.
From its cast to when you can expect to watch it, we’ve rounded up all the key facts for you here.
Super Mario movie release date
We have a firm release date for the Mario movie – Nintendo announced it was delayed to early 2023 but thankfully provided concrete dates.
It’s Miyamoto. After consulting with Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. movie, we have decided to move the worldwide release to Spring 2023, April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America. My sincere apologies, but I promise you it will be worth it.

This means that you will be able to watch the film in theaters on April 7, 2023 in the US, with a UK date yet to be confirmed.
Super Mario movie trailers
Although the movie has been known for quite a long time, we haven’t even seen a still of it, let alone a trailer.
That leaves a lot of room for speculation about what kind of art style the animated feature will use and how closely we can expect it to resemble various games in the long-running series. As soon as screenshots or trailers are released, we’ll add them here for you to check out.
The cast of the Super Mario movie
Nintendo has garnered a lot of attention for its cast announcements around the film in 2021, with a host of voice actors confirmed for the film.

Most attention has been focused on the central casting of Chris Pratt as Mario, who has drawn criticism due to the number of films the main man has starred in.
Other fun cast bits include Jack Black as the seemingly irrepressible Bowser and megastar Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach. You can find the full list of confirmed cast below:
- Chris Pratt as Mario
- Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach
- Charlie Day as Luigi
- Jack Black will play Bowser
- Keegan-Michael Key as Toad
- Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong
- Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong
- Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek
- Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike
Super Mario movie story
Another big area that’s up in the air for the next movie is what kind of story it will tell – there’s obviously a certain cyclical rhythm to the games’ simple stories of princesses saved and villains defeated.
We’ll have to wait for more to see exactly how much storytelling Nintendo is planning for the movie, or if it’ll be similar barebones.
