NieR Atomata has now sold 6.5 million units
Nintendo launched its Direct Mini which focused on some major third-party publishers and some of their IPs. One of them was the one from Square Enix Nier Atomata, which was one of the most critically acclaimed titles of 2017. It was announced at the event that Nier Atomata, or more precisely, NieR Atomata –The end of the YoRHa edition, will arrive on Nintendo Switch on October 6th. Just at the right time, and to celebrate this occasion, Square Enix has announced that NieR Atomata has now sold 6.5 million units worldwide since its launch in 2017.

Square Enix made the announcement on its official website, but only on the Japanese version. The message, which appears at the bottom left of the main page, roughly translates to “22.06.28 Cumulative worldwide shipments and downloads exceeded 6.5 million units”. This will more than likely be part of the company’s overall celebration for the title, which is now in its 5th year. The title was originally released for PlayStation 4 on February 23, 2017, with a North American release on March 7 and the rest of the world on March 10. The title would also make its way to the PC platform via Steam on March 17. .
In this short time, NieR Atomata was an immediate success and quickly circulated through the video game community as a strong contender for Game of the Year. It was ported to Xbox One a year later on June 26, 2018, where it became even more accessible through Microsoft’s Game Pass where it was made available for a while. Now it will grace the Nintendo Switch, and those lifetime numbers will more than likely grow exponentially. With a plethora of different playstyles and various endings, Switch owners are ready for a wild ride with NieR Atomata regarding the system on October 6th.
