Pokemon fan shows off custom Game Boy macro with Gengar theme

A Pokemon fan shows off a custom Gengar-themed Game Boy Macro with an incredible inlay of the pocket monster on the front.

Gamers have been customizing their consoles for years. This includes custom faceplates for the PS5 and paint jobs on consoles. A gamer decided to create his own custom console from a Nintendo DS, then added a Pokemon turn on it.

Game Boy Macros are Nintendo DS handhelds that have been modified into Game Boy Advances. This is done by removing the top half of the handheld, leaving the bottom screen and buttons. This is often done with damaged Nintendo DS systems in which the top half has somehow broken off. Since the top half of a Nintendo DS is very prone to damage, it is often difficult to repair. Game Boy macros are often customized after being transformed, creating unique handhelds with lots of character.

A player going through the handle Ds_macro_skull created a Game Boy Macro and added a fan-favorite Pokemon to the front. The modder has added a decal of the Pokemon Gengar to their machine, creating a unique Game Boy Advance that all Pokemon fan would like.

Ds_macro_skull added a transparent faceplate to the Game Boy Macro, which included clear face buttons. They then added a Gengar decal that takes up much of the faceplate of the handheld, with the decal depicting the wide, menacing grin the pocket monster is famous for. According to Ds_macro_skull, the decal was custom made for the Game Boy Macro. It’s a great fan project that resulted in a beautiful handheld that’s a great homage to Pokemon.

Ds_macro_skull’s Game Boy Macro is getting a lot of love. Some who commented are Gengar fans who give the handheld their endorsement, with some offering it nicknames such as Gamegar and Gengboy. However, the system has a commenter asking “Why?” Another states that they tried to make their own Game Boy Macro, which they managed to get working despite having difficulty cleaning the top ridge.

Ds_macro_skull isn’t the only one giving consoles a Pokemon makeover. A Redditor who goes by the handle The-Waifu-Collector customized his PS5 with Pokemon artwork. One side of the console features Team Rocket’s Jessie from the Pokemon lively. The other features Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket, along with two Persians, one regular and the other Alolan. The side with Giovanni also features Mewtwo in the background, along with the Team Rocket badge. Visibly absent from the console are James and Meowth, who usually accompany Jessie in the anime. Either way, the PS5 looks gorgeous and is a great piece of Pokemon art.
