Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has now sold over 28.17 million units worldwide

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was the most successful entry in the series, and it apparently continues to sell copies according to Nintendo. In February, it was reported that sales of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate had exceeded 27.40 million units worldwide.

Since then, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate pushed an additional 0.77 million units worldwide, representing a total of 28.17 million in sales. With that in mind, the sales total for the entire series has now reached 69.46 million.

Notably, the success of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is now more than double that of the second most successful game in the series. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the series entry for the Nintendo Wii. Super Smash Bros. Brawl has reportedly sold 13.32 million units to date.

However, it should be noted that sales of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate still haven’t quite doubled the reported sales of Super Smash Bros. 4 by combining Nintendo 3DS (9.63 million) and Wii U (5.38 million) entries to make 15.01 million units.

Despite the success of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, this only earned it the status of third best-selling title for the Nintendo Switch after Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (45.33 million units) and Animal Crossing: New Horizons (38.64 million units).

Comparatively, Super Smash Bros. Melee is said to be the most successful game on the Nintendo GameCube, having achieved 7.41 million sales worldwide.

Of course, the franchise’s humble beginnings shouldn’t be forgotten as the first game in the series, Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64, has so far released 5.55 million units.
