Valkyria Chronicles is the next Nintendo Switch online game trial in Japan

Nintendo Switch Online subscribers in Japan will be in for a treat Chronicles of Valkyria confirmed as the next Game Trial. Sega’s military-themed strategy RPG will be available for a week, starting at noon on July 5 until 5:59 p.m. (JST) on July 11.

Long before this Nintendo Switch online game trial, Sega originally released the game for PlayStation 3 in April 2008. The setting is a fictional continent called Europa (loosely based on Europe) during WWII. The story follows Lieutenant Welkin Gunther and Squad 7 of the Gallian militia, as they fight to repel the invasion of the Imperial Alliance from Eastern Europe.

Sega’s exclusive CANVAS game engine gives Chronicles of Valkyria a unique graphic style based on watercolor paintings. As for the gameplay, it features a combat system called BLiTZ (Battle of Live Tactical Zones) which combines turn-based systems with real-time action.

See how it plays out in a launch trailer for Chronicles of Valkyria below:

It should be noted that this version of Chronicles of Valkyria is not the same as the 2016 remaster for PlayStation 4. Sega ran the remaster at 1080p and 60 FPS for PS4. However, the Switch version includes all previously released DLC. Subscribers will also have the option to purchase Chronicles of Valkyria at a 33% discount for 1,466 yen (~ $ 13.23) during the game’s trial period.

Chronicles of Valkyria is immediately available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC. Keep in mind that the Chronicles of Valkyria The Game Trial announcement is only for Japan right now, so we’ll have to wait and see what the West gets. Nintendo Switch Online subscribers in Japan have Good work! in April, while Europe has Descendants, so other regions will probably get something that is not Chronicles of Valkyria.
