Valkyrie Elysium deposited by Square Enix in Japan

Square Enix has registered trademarks for “Valkyrie Elysium” in Japan, suggesting a possible return or a new game for the Valkyrie Profile series. The company filed English and Japanese trademarks registered for the title on September 16, 2021.

The last game in the series is the smartphone game Valkyrie Anatomia: The Origin, which released in Japan in April 2016 and globally in April 2019. Valkyrie Anatomy is a prequel to the original Valkyrie Profile, which also received an upgraded port for the PlayStation Portable called Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth in 2006. Before mobile gaming, the last main entry was the Nintendo DS title of 2008 Valkyrie Profile: Pact of the Feather.

Enix and tri-Ace co-developed the original Valkyrie Profile, but it was tri-Ace that developed the rest of the games in Valkyrie profile 2 and Pact of the Pen. The last major game developed by tri-Ace was Star Ocean: Integrity and infidelity (Star Ocean 5) for PlayStation 3 and 4 in 2016. Since then the developer has only worked on a handful of ports and remasters and nothing since Star Ocean: First Departure R in 2019.

It should be noted that the Valkyrie Elysee the filing of a trademark could mean a possible new Valkyrie Profile game, but it could also just be Square Enix taking a name for something else that ends up being a big burger with nothing. Either way, time will tell what comes out of it, and it would certainly be cool to see Tri-Ace come back into the mix.
